Dental erosion, abrasion and attrition

Erosion, abrasion and attrition are terms used to indicate the wear and tear of a tooth. The abrasion is what is observed in all individuals due to the normal wear to which a tooth is subjected with the passage of time, and is of approximately 30 microns per year. Abrasion can also be due to pathologies such as bruxism, in which the wear is more marked. Similarly, the use of an excessively hard toothbrush can cause abrasions of the neck of a tooth.

Attritions are the pathological wear due to bad habits, such as biting a pipe, a pen, or due to a piercing. Erosions are due to the chemical action of acids on the tooth enamel; they are often seen in patients with blumia.
